The western part of the plot, based on rainfall observations, is a zone of constant rainwater runoff, therefore it is entirely developed with a rain garden, with space for larger plants.
Drainage channels bring water from the front of the plot to an isolated depression, which, with the use of a drainage pipe, allows water to be introduced to lower parts of the soil.
The isolated tank has another overflow element at the end of the plot, from which water can freely spread in the ground over the entire surface.
The whole thing was designed and adapted individually to the needs of this area.
Violent summer storms, preceded by long-term drought, are already a permanent element of our climate.
Sloping terrain, surrounded by fields without drainage and a high layer of clay soil poses a high risk of flooding during such rainfall, and storing water in closed tanks does not guarantee safety.
In this case, rainfall management is the main design issue, while supporting the ecological aspect of the project.
Rain gardens are a great solution to problems related to climate change, not only due to the safety of the building but also to problems related to low rainfall.
Additionally, they diversify the landscape and are a surface requiring minimal care. A demanding plot becomes extremely attractive thanks to picturesque slopes and a meandering stream that brings water to open depressions, slowly seeping rainwater into the soil and consequently to groundwater, the low level of which is an alarm to consider this problem.
The development of the area provides for the expansion of the existing slope, allowing for the enlargement of the terrace space and the creation of space for xerophilous plants. The western part of the plot is enriched with a system of connected rain gardens surrounded by stones and plants resistant to both drought and long periods of stagnant water.
The whole was designed in a country style and enriched with vegetable boxes and fruit trees on the lawn, which at the same time shield the plot from the wide viewing field due to the slope of the terrain.
The family with adolescent children gained a large recreational space and a sheltered area near the tool shed.
